An Android Trojan which is a JAR file. It is a component of the malicious application Android.RemoteCode.106.origin and can be downloaded by its other module detected as Android.Click.199.origin.

Once launched, Android.Click.201.origin establishes a connection with the command and control server located at http://*.*.65.235:18080/sys/task/get/ and receives tasks. Example:

{
   "result":true,
   "task":{
      "id":"d23e4530-c53e-11e7-95da-555b877da92d",
      "timeouts":{
         "pageMin":40000,
         "pageMax":60000,
         "navigation":120000,
         "taskMax":240000
      },
      "navigation":{
         "url":" " http://discover*******.com/?p=1471341544&subid=123&uid=123 ,
         "referer":" " http://***search.com/search/web?q=toilet+valve ,
         "domains":{
            " " discover*******.com :"***.**.217.236"
         }
         }
      },
      "depth":1,
      "name":"",
      "bid":0,
      "click":{
         "class":"mbad"
      }
   }
}

In the WebView window, which is invisible to a user, the Trojan opens a URL indicated in the task and simultaneously replaces a domain with an IP address ***.**.217.236 obtained in the task. In addition, the malicious program replaces the Referer value with its own: http://***search.com/search/web?q=toilet+valve). As a result, the target website gets information that the user supposedly visited it by following the indicated address. In the website response, the Trojan indicates the website domain in Location. The website domain was sent in the following task: discover*******.com.

Once the website from the task is loaded, Android.Click.201.origin finds an advertising banner there or an arbitrary element and clicks it. A new page opens as the result of this action. The Trojan continues to click on banners and other elements of the website until it reaches a number of clicks which is set by the C&C server.

When loading a target web address, Android.Click.201.origin deletes a field wv from the User Agent value. Thus, the loaded website fails to determine that WebView has been used for its visit. As a result, cybercriminals can inflate traffic by making numerous “unique” requests.

Curing recommendations

Android

  1. If the mobile device is operating normally, download and install Dr.Web for Android Light. Run a full system scan and follow recommendations to neutralize the detected threats.
  2. If the mobile device has been locked by Android.Locker ransomware (the message on the screen tells you that you have broken some law or demands a set ransom amount; or you will see some other announcement that prevents you from using the handheld normally), do the following:
    • Load your smartphone or tablet in the safe mode (depending on the operating system version and specifications of the particular mobile device involved, this procedure can be performed in various ways; seek clarification from the user guide that was shipped with the device, or contact its manufacturer);
    • Once you have activated safe mode, install the Dr.Web для Android Light onto the infected handheld and run a full scan of the system; follow the steps recommended for neutralizing the threats that have been detected;
